さて、冒頭から専門用語が登場。「エクワックス」って、なんだそれ？ と思った人もいるかもしれない。正式には EXTENDED COLD WEATHER CLOTHING SYSTEM の略称で、日本語だと「拡張式寒冷地被服システム」となるらしい。つまり、レイヤリング（重ね着）で寒さを乗り切るための知恵の結晶、みたいなものだ。アウトドアメーカーが昔から積み上げてきたスタイルを、よりシステマチックに仕上げた感じ、と言えばわかりやすいかもしれない。

そんなエクワックスの精神に触発されたかのように、「CMF OUTDOOR GARMENT」から新作のコートが登場。ナイロン素材を使った一着で、ほんのりシワ感が残る表情がなんともいい塩梅だ。これ一枚で「それっぽい」雰囲気を出せるから、ありがたい。

2016年にデビューした「コンフィー インナー ダウン」。当時のラインナップはたった2型。シンプルで実用的、それでいてちょっとだけこだわりを感じさせる菱形のキルティングデザインが印象的だった。それが今シーズン、菱形は少し大きくなり、ナイロン素材には控えめながら上品な光沢感がプラスされている。この微妙な進化がいい。やりすぎず、ちょうどいいアップデート感。

ノーカラーのネックは、薄手のナイロンアウターの下にレイヤードするのに最適。もちろん、それだけじゃない。例えば、チャンピオンのリバースウィーブパーカーみたいなゆるいシルエットのトップスに合わせても不思議と馴染む。むしろ、ちょっとカジュアルなアイテムと組み合わせたほうが、このインナーダウンの軽やかさや上品さが引き立つ気がする。要するに、自由度が高い。朝、クローゼットを開けたときに真っ先に手に取ってしまうような、そんな頼りになるアイテムだ。
